After having played on the jungle gym and the swings for quite a while yesterday, Mommy decided it was time to go home. I informed Kevin, who was still swinging, that I’d count to three and then I’d get him out and we’d leave. I said, “One..” and before I could finish my counting, I heard a little voice say ” Two, tree”. And it was Kevin!!!! He even tried to hold up the right number of fingers. Who knew he could count to three? Not me!
This afternoon Tasha went to get dressed (again, for the fourth time today), and when I went upstairs to check on her, I found her with a t-shirt that hangs in her closet….on a rack about 4 feet above her head……I asked her how she got the shirt. Her response was “Mom, I’m a big girl”! Well, okay then! =)
No, we’re not pregnant and we didn’t adopt a pet….well, not in a conventional way anyways. Kevin is our dog! Unlike Tasha who didn’t really play pretend very much until recently, Kevin has already started crawling around woofing and snuggling up against your leg like a dog! I discovered this one Saturday when I heard Tasha saying “Good doggy” and found that Kevin had walked over to Tasha, then gotten on his hands and knees at her feet and proceeded to woof while she petted his head! Too much! =)
While we’ve known for a long time now that Tasha loves to baby her dolls, her Snowy, etc, this moment we had Saturday night takes the cake!
We had friends over for dinner who have two kids; one Tasha’s age and one that is 7 months old. The 7 month-old was laying on the fam. room floor and I happened to look down at her and realized that she had a bare bottom. I thought it odd since both parents were up in the kitchen with us. The hilarity of the situation hit me when I saw Tasha walking down the stairs with a diaper and the little girls bloomers and proceeded to diaper and dress her saying, “Kaitlyn pee-pee in diaper”!!!!! We had a good laugh over our little Mother in training!
For those of you who frequent our blog site, I wanted to draw your attention to the righthand side. There are other pages you can view; one dedicated to the things Kevin is saying, and one for Tasha too. Just fyi!
On Saturday, Remax was holding a community appreciation day at a local park. Though the weather was yucky, we decided to brave it. It was a hit! With us anyways. There weren’t alot of people there, which was perfect. We watched a clown make balloon animals, got a spider painted on the kids hands (Tasha’s was pink and sparkly, of course), jumped on one of those blow-up things, had free muffins and took our first hot air balloon ride. Kevin wasn’t so sure about the hot air balloon thing. He whimpered all the way up and down. Tasha, on the other hand, seemed to think it was kind of neat and by the time we got down, had a little smile on her face. The balloon was tethered so it wasn’t going very high or far, but it was a neat experience nonetheless.
After all that excitement, we visited with some dogs that were wandering around and then played at the playground. Kevin was able to climb up the stairs and go down the slide all by himself! What a big boy!
There were professional photographers running around snapping photos and while waiting for the balloon ride, I heard them say, “let’s get a photo of that cute girl with the glasses”. So, a photo will be posted when I receive it.
Everytime I vacuum, Kevin is right there in front of it. There’s a light on the front of the vacuum, and being a boy, anything that lights up and makes noise equals big fun! The only problem is that he walks in front of the vacuum the whole time and doesn’t let me move anywhere!
Today, Kevin thought it would be funny to take his truck and ram it into the vacuum as I was cleaning the family room. A whole new challenge! What a boy!!!!
Hard to believe that Ammon and I have been married for 5 years already! Our first three anniversaries were spent in a different state, or island. For the first one, we hiked the Napali Coast in Kauai; the second we went to AZ, the third was St. Augustine, Fl. Last year was low-key, so I guess Ammon decided to mix things up again! Friday was our anniversary and I had no idea what Ammon had planned. I knew it was something special, but the only clues he would give me were: to “trust” him and not get mad, to clean the car as if a celebrity were riding in it and to wear something formal….
I dropped off the kids to the Mannings around 5 and picked up Ammon from work. He gave me the impression that we weren’t eating out anywhere special as part of our evening. I thought we were going to Good times or something. He informed me we were going somewhere I hadn’t heard of before. Well, he headed downtown and started “looking for parkin”. Then we pulled up to the Valet at The Brown Palace Hotel. I could not believe him! What a little sneaker! Now I understood why I’d had to clean the car. So, he took me to eat at the Palace Arms inside the hotel. It’s one of the few 4 star restaurants in Denver and still has a dress code. We sat down to a quaint little table by a huge gilded mirror (see picture below) and I looked to see a beautiful bouquet of flowers on the table. Ammon had ordered the bouquet to be on the table he’d selected ahead of time. What a cutie!
We enjoyed an incredible meal of Cesear Salad for two, A Chilean Turbot with potato ganache, artichoke salad and truffle vinagrette froth. I finished with Chocolate Soup (to die for) and Ammon had the coconut Tapioca with Mango Sorbet. Everything melted in your mouth and the combination of flavors was spectacular.
Ammon informed me that he had one more small surprise for me; he’d rented a couple chick flicks and we’d watch them when we got home.
We walked around the lobby and went upstairs to look at the stained glass atrium. It was so pretty. The hotel was built in 1898 and has been stayed at by many Presidents and celebrities. It still has alot of the original features.
Anyways, we were walking down to the car, I thought, when suddenly Ammon stopped and opened a door to a room. I walked in to find the room sprinkled with red rose petals. He was even sneakier than I thought!!!! It was the perfect evening and morning though. Total relaxation and no little ones to worry about. The room even had those white terrycloth robes that I always thought it would be fun to wear!
We didn’t have a camera with us, just our laptop, which takes just ok photos. So, we got some off the web.
What a sweet husband I have!!!! =) It was the perfect anniversary.

The happy couple, in our hotel robes! hee hee
We had a great Easter weekend in Colorado Springs with the Narayan’s and the Mannings. We’d only planned to stay one day, but ended up making it a weekend trip on account of some nasty weather. We all had a great time, eating brunch and doing an egg hunt on Saturday and then going to church and visiting on Sunday. There are lots more photos, but I figured these ones were enough for now! Take note of Tasha’s new pretty glasses. I think she looks older with them. She’s such a good girl about keeping them on.

We wanted to say sorry to anyone who might have checked our blog in the past few weeks and found nothing but old news. The month of March was kind of a rocky one. Between colds, working on house projects, Tasha getting glasses and her also ending up in the hospital….we had our hands more than full!!! Anyways, we’re back and all is well at the Manning house. =)
Here’s what you missed: Kevin can now say many more words than even a week ago. He’s saying “Yes”, “Eat”, “Love you”, “Thank You” and I’m sure there are more that I missed. A lot of words he’s saying on the first try! It’s cute to hear his little voice actually say something decipherable….(is that a word? If not, it is now!)
Tasha has been using her imagination more and more. She still dresses, feeds, bathes and generally babies her favorite friend, Snowy. In addition to that, she pretends that pillows are tv’s playing various movies of which she creates the plot and tells me all about it. She also will frequently pretend to feed me imaginary culinary delectables that she has made. And, the latest is wrapping up miscellaneous items in a piece of paper and giving it to me and singing happy birthday to me. This of course is a b-day present for me. It’s so fun to see her use her imagination!
Singing silly songs is a frequent occurence in our house. Kevin loves it when I sing to him and will always ask for more. Tasha is really starting to love singing herself and can sing the ABC song all by herself. She’s still working on “Twinkle, Twinkle….”. Today I was exercising and had a music mix playing. Cherish by Madonna came on and you should’ve heard Tasha belting out her off-tune, nonsensical melody. It was adorable!
As for the house, the cabinets are finally almost finished! We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just have to paint one small one and put the doors back on half of them and then we’re all done! The banister and railings are done so we’ll have a photo of that soon so you can see the end result. We love it. After the kitchen is done (have to paint the ceiling too) we’ll move on to the fam room. We’re just going to paint, nothing else for the moment. We;re going to take a break from projects for a while.
Well, that’s enough of a novel for now!
